gingie houses

to celebrate the first {real} snow, this weekend we OD'ed on sugar...i mean...made gingerbread houses...

the smallish one, with the brown assymmetrical roof, was created by jennifer and myself. our intial vision was a quaint english cottage but after the roof fell apart for the umpteenth time we decided to go with a more frank lloyd wright meets country chalet feel.

while cassie and marissa went with the classic hansel and gretel country style, complete with a colored necco roof top, tree of life {using runts} and giant mickey mouse ears {on the backside}.

three cheers for sugar!

Oh Lizzie Lou,
You're house is delightful (& delicious I'm sure). It brought back such fond memories of prior gingerbread experiences - especially the part about it falling apart. I'm glad you didn't give up on your building abilities - you've become a great success!!
Love ya!!

how cute! we actually did the exact same houses after Thanksgiving. Costco? we always make a different frosting that is not edible...to actually "glue" the house together so they do not fall apart. we put the houses together with this special frosting the night before....very important step. and then the next morning we wake up and decorate. this is one of my favorite holiday traditions. so fun and the kids love to eat a tiny bit avery day....just because it is impossible for them to wait until after Christmas, ya know! LOL!
