watch out world

..here i come!
i have been planning this trip to london.paris.edinburgh with jennifer for the past 2 months and now finally it is feeling for reals.
we have been booking hotels and transportation and wow it feels like a dream. i can't believe i am going to see all "the sights" that i learned about in art history, world history, family history. its all i can do to help from letting out a canine-like yelp of excitement!
lucky for me over the past year i've been schooled in the ol' accent and day to day lingo by working with my own english-born tutor {aka the british boss lady}
she has taught me {indirectly} phrases such as ...

"I'm off to the loo again. I've got my phone."
"It's because he's shtoopid."
"ah lizzy, I've got dellybelly. why did I eat all that candy?"
"how's your mum...I mean your grandmum?"
"you look like you've gained weight...how much?"
"what's for suppa?" {meaning lunch}
"It must be at home in the gare-age."
"I'm off. see you later." {said while still sitting at her desk}
so i think i got london covered. i'll fit right in.
Paris, France on the other hand..ahhh. after taking 3 years of french during my wonder years you'd think i had a good solid base but for some reason all i can remember is...
je m'appelle elisabet. je m'appelle elisabet. je m'appelle elisabet. je m'appelle elisabet.
okay, so maybe a few french lessons on cd will help. hopefully its like riding a bike.
but scotland. umm. the only ties i have to scotland are braveheart and so i married an ax murderer. not much.
anyways can't wait. only 57 more days until i hit european soil.
if you have any travel suggestions please do tell. i'll take all the advice i can get.

Fun, fun, fun!!! I'm so excited for you! I loved London! Onlike other European nations, they speak English and so it was quite nice to be able to communicate. One of my favorite things was the National Gallery. It was my favorite museum--chock full of so much amazing famous art!

Luck girl...what an amazing adventure that will be, and to do it with girlfriends will be so much fun! I myself have never traveled oversees, but word on the street from others that I've talked to have said that those neck pillows (the "c" shaped ones that fit around your neck) are a must for the long plane rides.

I can only imagine what you'll be like wandering the streets, picking up the accent without realization. It will be a sight. Jennifer will have lots to report. :) delly belly or Delhi belly???

I can't wait to see your inspired journals after this trip. You are so Sabrina in Brave on the Rocks.

Edinburgh- You know I'm not one to volunteer to get up early but get up early to see Edinburgh Castle in the morning fog before you walk down the Royal Mile to Holyrood.

Paris- Add 'glace au caramel' to your vocab list. Mmmmm

London- One really good restaurant is The Good Earth at 233 Brompton Road. (I looked it up for ya)I first used chopsticks here because there were no other options. I've eaten here twice and the food is great!

And #1 rule: don't check you bags. That is for sissy travelers;)"Pack light" is the best travel advice.

Love you!

I am so excited for you. British food is notoriously not that wonderful. In London and Paris you have to eat at Pret A Manger. You will see them all over the place. They just have sandwiches, soups, wraps, breakfast foods, etc. and everything is all natural. It is so yummy and probably the best place to go for breakfast. Don't hesitate to try all the authentic Indian food too. I loved London much more than Paris. Have so much fun!

Yes, follow Rachel's advice if possible. Mark and I checked one bag and then had a carry on with all the important things and change of clothes in case we got stuck in an airport...and guess what...we got stuck in 2 airports! Our trip home took 30 hours (as opposed to 14). Take a bag you can carry as a backpack unless you want to spend lots of $ on a taxi.(Eagle Creek Switchback Max ES 22 Convertible Pack Item # EAG0158 on backcountry.com)
And be sure to write in your journal every day!
